Emeritus professor Ionel Michael Navon hasn’t missed a beat since his retirement. Each year since 2014, Navon has published a dozen or so papers, and continued his contributions to mentorship and service to the sciences. As an affirmation of his outstanding body of work, Navon was honored with Festschrift for his 50-year contribution to the sciences.

Festschrift is a way for colleagues in the field to honor those who have demonstrated exceptional scientific careers and scholarly influence; for Navon, it is a special issue of the International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids which credits his lifetime of scholarship and contains tributes filled with essays and articles in recognition of a respected colleague.

Navon is a fellow of the American Meteorological Society, an honorary member of the Academy of Romanian Scientists, and has faculty affiliations with the FSU Departments of Scientific Computing, Mathematics, Meteorology, and the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute. He maintains close research ties with Imperial College, London, Timisoara Polytechnic University, Timisoara, and Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie "Grigore T. Popa", Iasi. His work makes important contributions to data assimilation and reduced order modeling.

Now 80, Navon continues to research and publish in academic journals; he is working on new articles and grant proposals for more scholarly studies.
