Abstract:

This talk outlines the burgeoning industrial research community in the Tallahassee area. We will briefly address the sociopolitical and economic factors involved in its formation, mention some of the private and public partners, and outline current and pending research projects. We will emphasize current research taking place at NewSci Labs, a machine learning R&D branch of NewSci LLC, and the nascent AI for Good Lab, a consortium of local data science companies. Examples of projects we will discuss include: a speech-to-speech AI system for training 911 telecommunicators, an automated AI pipeline for graphic design, anomaly detection within streaming COVID-19 records , graph embedding techniques to supplement COVID-19 vaccine distribution strategies, real-time 3D vehicle reconstruction with our point cloud gateway, and a few exploratory projects such as generating fake abstracts for math publications with GPT-2. We will conclude by addressing our utilization of cloud computing and its crucial role in supporting research in big data and machine learning.
