The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the leading applied mathematics society in the world, has named Max Gunzburger, Francis Eppes Professor and Chair of the Department of Scientific Computing, as one of its charter group of fellows. Until now, none of the prestigious mathematics society in the US, including the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, and SIAM, have named fellows of their society. Similarly, none of the prestigious mathematics societies in other countries have named fellows. This year, SIAM is becoming the first mathematics society to do so, and selected the first group of mathematical scientists to be named fellows of the society; Max Gunzburger is among that group. The charter group of fellows will be recognized at at a luncheon held on July 7 during the SIAM Annual Meeting in Denver.
