"Prescribed Fire Science: interdisciplinary research to advance fire we use"

Wildfires dominate the news cycles each summer, but prescribed fire burns more acres each year across the country. The research investment in prescribed fire has lagged that of wildfire and created knowledge gaps that leave fire managers few tools to plan prescribed fires and poor mechanistic connections of fire behavior to desired fire effects. The Prescribed Fire Science Consortium organized by Tall Timbers is leading research to address these issues connecting physics to ecology. I will present an overview of these projects and their reliance on computational fluid dynamics to bridge disciplines.
