Ming Ye receives DOE Early Career Award

SC Associate Professor Ming Ye has been selected as a 2012 recipient of the Department of Energy Early Career Award for his proposal, Computational Bayesian Framework for Quantification and Reduction of Predictive Uncertainty in Groundwater Reactive Transport Modeling. Ye was one of only 68 selectees chosen based on peer review of over 850 proposals and the only person selected for the award from FSU.

Perry selected to attend European-US HPC Summer School in Dublin

SC Ph.D. student Michelle Perry has been selected to attend the European-US HPC Summer School in Dublin, Ireland, June 24-28, 2012. The award was based on Perry’s research which focuses on constructing and optimizing Bayesian Neural Networks and their application to High Energy Physics data. By attending the week-long seminar, Perry will augment her knowledge of her own research area and become better acquainted with other research areas in computational science.

Lu Awarded Travel Fellowship

Ph.D. student Dan Lu has been awarded a Student Travel Fellowship to attend the annual Principal Investigator meeting of the Subsurface Biogeochemical Research unit of the Department of Energy. The meeting will be held April 30 – May 2, 2012 in Washington, DC, and is intended to provide an opportunity for Principal Investigators to discuss successes, problems, and challenges of their research. The meeting is attended by PIs and their associates.

Zavala-Romero and Young receive awards at DigiTech

Scientific Computing doctoral students Olmo Zavala-Romero and Andrew Young received awards for their entries in the DigiTech gallery of student exhibits. The event was held at the William Johnston Building on March 30th, and showcased the best exhibits exemplifying student innovation with technology.
