Department to sponsor hack-a-thon

The Department of Scientific Computing announces its sponsorship of this year’s HackFSU event to be held Friday, February 17 through Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Dirac Science Library.

The event will begin with an opening ceremony, then students and recent graduates will have 30 hours to meet partners, create teams, determine skill sets, brainstorm an idea, and build a software application or hardware project from start to finish. In fact, participants may implement any concept that is computer related – hardware, software, mobile apps, or web design. After working through the weekend, HackFSU will conclude with closing ceremonies Sunday afternoon.

Sockwell finalist for paper prize

SC grad student Chad Sockwell has been named one of eight finalists for the Bavarian Graduate School of Computational Engineering Student Paper Prize to be awarded at the SIAM Computational Science & Engineering Conference in Atlanta. The prize will be awarded for outstanding student work in the field of computational science and engineering.
